Richard Killeen

Born in 1946 in Auckland, Richard Killeen attended the Auckland University School of Fine Art 1964-66, and has exhibited in New Zealand and overseas since 1967. His direction and interest has always been toward a multiplicity of imagery relating to social issues, history, archeology, science and nature.

He is most well known for the work created in the years 1978 to 2000, made from cutout aluminium shapes that hang on the wall in groups. Since 2003 Killeen has focussed on digital image-making, working on both paper and canvas.

A major retrospective of his work, Stories We Tell Ourselves, The Paintings of Richard Killeen, was organised by the Auckland Art Gallery in 1999. The exhibition was curated by Francis Pound.
